Charles Morris has an established reputation for alterations to large country houses and the construction of major new houses. Shortly prior to our founding Hoare Ridge & Morris, he was commissioned to design a new house for a large estate in Suffolk whose principal house had previously been divided into flats.
Charles identified a site which related well to the Home Farm buildings and which created the opportunity to extend the historic parkland.
The house sits confidently in this new parkland setting with a central chimney stack over its 3 storey form. The principal accommodation is at first floor level as a Piano Nobile to make the most of the long Suffolk views. The walled garden and entrance court form an integral part of the building, creating a firm edge in the landscape so that sheep can graze right up to the walls.
Charles also designed the interior fittings and finishes and some pieces of furniture.
